I was lucky enough to get a Sephora gift card from my sister-in-law for the holidays this year. To me, makeup and beauty gift cards are a great gift. I don't know about you, but I always feel guilty dropping $$ on makeup and beauty products--especially ones that are new or new-to-me. Gifts that allow you to buy something that is a "want" and not a "need" with no guilt truly are the best!
Here's what I picked out:
1. Tarte Amazonian Clay Tinted Moisturizer, in Ivory, $36.
I tried a bunch of different foundations on in the store and went with this one. I've been using Jouer Matte Moisture Tint which I got in my birchbox and bought online afterwards. After using that a regular foundation for everyday use just felt too heavy. This Tarte moisturizer offered moderate coverage and feels super light. The color, while very light, is perfect for my winter skin. I'm a fan!
The bottom line:
Who would like this: people who want some coverage but nothing that feels heavy.
Who should pass: anyone who wants serious/full coverage... it isn't a true foundation, ladies!
2. Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil Light, 0.5 oz size, $14.
Y'all I was really curious about this. I've read a lot about argan oil and how it's basically a magic cure for everything. I have very dry skin, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I picked up the $14 small size because the full size bottle is $48-- too much for me when I'm not sure I'm going to like something. The first night I tried this I used it on my entire face. It took some self-convincing to do this, honestly, because after having pretty bad acne as a teen I am still terrified of the thought of oil. The next day my skin felt moisturized, but I noticed two (very) small blemishes on one of my cheeks. I decided in case the oil caused that I don't want to use it on my whole face anymore. Since then I've just been using it underneath my eyes and on the outer corner of my eyes. I think it's doing a great job at keeping that delicate area moisturized and fine lines seem to be less noticeable.
The bottom line:
Who would like this: those with super dry skin or who have clear skin.
Who should pass: anyone with oily or breakout-prone skin, unless you only want to use a little here and there on dry spots or wrinkles.
Have you tried either of these products? What did you think?
