becoming a grown-up one piece of furniture at a time...

Good morning!

As you may know, R and I lived together for three years before we got married during law school.  Seeing as we were just out of college at the time, we didn't have much furniture.  We were lucky enough to get a lot of hand-me-downs from our families, so we didn't have much to buy.  The things we did buy were from Ikea and Target, and while there is certainly NOTHING wrong with either of those stores (we just bought a new table from Ikea which I'll show you tomorrow), we are excited to add a few nice, substantial pieces to our home. 

This is the "before" picture featuring his mother's heinous navy and pink bird patterned couch which we covered with a slip cover: 

While it doesn't look too bad here, we had to straighten the cover all the time, which was annoying.  When I say "we" I mean R, by the way...

and here is the awesome new couch:

Isn't it just gorge?  We were able to pick out two fabrics for custom pillows and I chose this maroon-red and brown/tan paisley (it looks green in this picture for some reason, but it's brown)

of course, our little man didn't waste any time making himself comfortable on the new couch!

It's so exciting to start picking things out that we like and that fit our style.  More decor updates to come!
